Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America lying at 282 feet (855 m) below sea level. On the rock behind the car park there is a sign which actually shows how far above you sea level actually is and its quite surprising when you actually see how high it is! The site was named Badwater Basin because the water was too salty for the first surveyor’s mule to drink.
The landscape is truly awesome with incredible salt flats that you can walk out onto. You can actually see where the salt crystals have formed under the water.
